Quick Update

Just a quick update before I go to bed on the forest fire that I posted about yesterday. It rages on, having consumed 20,000 acres so far. One person is unaccounted for, more and more evacuations have been announced, and the news said the current evacuation center has been closed because of the falling ash, which concerns me because it is in the public school just a few blocks from where my daughter lives. She said tonight that they may have to evacuate because of falling ash and burning cinders. She is by the way due to have her baby June 22, so I worry about her stress.

The good news: her husband's father was able to get access to their home and the house is safe, but the fire was coming down the hill behind the barn, so he is sure that he lost his barn. He didn't stick around to see. They still don't know if their daughter's house survived. It will be weeks before they will be able to get back to their property. Here, the smoke is much heavier than it was yesterday. We are probably 50 miles away and the smoke and ash are drifting in the wind. I finally closed doors and windows to keep the smoke smell out. The fire is 0% contained, has burned for 36 hours now and probably was caused by lightening. If you are curious about the fire, go to our Denver news station 9news.com.

If you are of a praying mind, please remember those poor folks who have lost their homes. Good night.

  1. Dear Ann, so sorry to hear about the fire and the worry for your daughter and family. We have had so much rain that in Wales they are worried about the flooding and people evacuating their houses and the damage.Locally there are worries over some of our rivers and roads.

Thinking and praying for you all, take care, love Jackie in Surrey, UK

  5. Ann, this is a horrific scene to have to live through...I am praying for your Daughter, and her family, and all of those who are effected by this fire.

The Okanagan went through this a few yeas ago...and although we weren't living here at the time, our families were, and it still brings back bad memories and anxiety. The fires came too close, there is still visible damage around here.

  6. How dreadful. I do hope your daughter keeps safe - I can imagine how worried you are. If only we could send you the awful rain we are experiencing in the UK to help you all out.

  7. Hi Ann, I have been so worried about your and your family's safety since getting a photo from a friend in Co. in an email of the sky from his home which is not as close as yours. I hope that fire goes out. Keep us posted.

  8. I'm sorry Ann, how frightening it all is. I'll send up a prayer! You said my garden must shout color, and indeed it does. I wouldn't have it any other way. My home is the same. I love color!

  9. Hi Ann we have bushfires here too. They are terrifying. Makes me so angry to think some are caused by human hands. Also inspiring to see the forest regrowth in the wake of a fire. Hope your fire gets under control ASAP and that everyone is safe. Thinking of you.

  10. My husband and I are in the process of buying a house in Rist Canyon, and we've done pretty much nothing but watch the news, the twitter streams, the radio scanners, etc. these last few days. We have good reason to believe the house is okay but this fire is far from over. Sending positive thoughts to you and your family and everyone who lives out there. It's been so gratifying to see how the community has pulled together, and heartbreaking to hear of the losses.
